Funny Roller Story

I have been riding the rollers qite a bit this year. It’s been great for my pedaling stroke. Started back in the winter and had not had one fall off the rollers until yesterday.

I had set up the rollers in front of the TV so I could watch the Tour de France. Everything was going well until they started the descent off of the Columbier. As the moto cameras started following the riders swooping through the big turns on the descent, all of a sudden I wiped out. I guess that I had been subconciously trying to steer the bike while I followed the rider on the TV as If I was trailing the guy and off the front roller I went. I ride bewteen two couches so, it was a soft fall.

May I suggest you watch the Grand Slalom in th enext Winter Olympics instead.

Try watch a MTB video like Roam or The Collective. Good luck!

great story
it is good to laugh at ourselves
so did the Mavic tour car come to your aid ?
did you get up and finish with the main group?
how far our out of the yellow jersey after the fall ?

Thom

I think that I was trailing Gerdman when I went down. My rear wheel was hoopped, so I got another one from the Mavic guy and off I went. I recall trying to hold off Michael Boogerd in the sprint!

yes lets dream big when we dream ;+)

Thom.

Been riding rollers for years. Done that once. Almost done it several other times. Buy a fork mount.

Fleck…unless you are doing stroke work, I’m baffled why you would choose to ride rollers in our limited short summer here in Ontario :-). Seriously though, I do agree, they are a great tool and I do use them time to time in the summer, especially if I want to shake out my legs in the evening for 20-30 min after a hard morning workout

Try watching a hockey game and swerve each time to avoid a check.

Dev,

It was pouring rain and the Tour was on TV

As a general rule, I don’t ride in the rain any more. 10 years of training in Vancouver was like a life-time of rain riding anywhere else. Now from time to time, I will be forced out in it, but for the most part I will admit to being a fair weather rider.

Watching Le Tour while on rollers is indeed a dangerous thing. My friend wiped out spectacularly while riding her rollers - the guys got up for a bunch sprint and she forgot she wasn’t in the race.

Only thing worse than laughing out load at work is trying to explain to a non rider what the heck you are laughing at. Thanks that made my day.

Great story, I can just see myself doing that. Fortunately the summer here in Floriduh is about 9 months long, so I don’t have to worry so much about missing a day from rain. I used to ride regardless, but then realized all the time spent cleaning, etc could be much better spent by waiting for the afternoon/early evening thunderstorm to pass…and then go for a run if it was too close to dark.
