On a family vacation and tubing down the Chatahoochee River in North Georgia yesterday with a group that included my attractive and bikini-clad 14 yo daughter and 17 yo niece. They were in front of us by a good piece when apparently a teen-age boy made some rather aggressive unwanted advances towards them. When he was overly persistent and ignoring their requests for him to leave them alone my daughter informed him that her father was shortly behind them on the river and that I would take care of him. Punk kid in reply, “your Dad’s probably fat with a big beer belly.” My daughter right back, “my Dad’s an Ironmanand he’ll kick your butt.”
My niece told me the story. I’m pretty quiet about the IM thing (just a thing I did/do), but it’s nice to know that my daughter sees me that way
So what you’re saying is that you lift weights as part of your Ironman training regiment. That’s a slippery slope around here… haha
Actually that’s some pretty cool recognition. Going into my first ironman this summer and outside of dragging my body through the water I’ve lost enough upper body strength to where my 14 yo sister could probably take me, Unless I run her tired. Good story though.
It is very cool that at 14, she still has that kind of respect and admiration for you. That’s unusual at that age, and speaks well of you and your wife as parents (as well as her in general).
That’s my new technique shoud I get in a fight I think, since I’ve dropped from about 180 rowing crew in college to about 158 running and cycling so much I am not much of a physical presence.
Okay, that is WAY way cool. Good for you, and her. I think that should be a top ten reason why anyone would want to do an Ironman: so you look like a badass to your kids.
