Well today as i was going to work I saw a guy that was actually hammering the bike, not helmet of course, but he was riding hard, he was grinding, low cadence, full of sweat and moving. so i take a 2nd look as he has something in his right hand on the hoods. and sure enough it is a cigarette. I mean don’t get me wrong here in So. Cal. i have seen it before, usually on the Santa Ana River trail but i don’t really ride on that trail too much, too flat. on the River trail you see people all the time on a cruiser heading to the beach smoking cigarettes. But this guy was drenched could be because it is about 100F right now. But he was really hammering the bike, low cadence grind and moving. i just saw something white sticking out of his right hand that he had a on the hood and when I took a 2nd look it was a cigarette. Now i thought that was funny because this guy was actually out there training. He probably didn’t have a helmet because of the heat. But who knows, if he was out there riding hard and smoking!!!
Did he have long socks on??? You never know it just might catch on!
Saw a guy light one up while riding no-hands. You’re right, my friend and I regard that among the funniest things we’ve ever seen.

Funny, I had a vision a couple of days ago of doing a triathlon bike leg with a ciggie in my mouth and a bottle of Newcastle Brown in my bottle cage, whilst zooming past guys on flash bikes and disk wheels.
Classic. I just saw a guy doing this yesterday. Whenever I see someone who doesn’t look like they belong on the bike, I assume they are putting their time in to Team DUI.
