It’s noon on Friday and I’m waiting for my boss to arrive for a 12:30 meeting. It’s corporate layoff day and we’re all waiting to hear. Word is the axe has already swung wide in our other local office and I’m pacing up and down the halls. Happy hour comes early today!
Best of luck to you.
Been through a number of rounds of “right sizing” (Stupid f’ing corporate speak!!) and finally got it after 12 years. Self employed since, best thing that ever happened to me. Good luck ![]()
thanks, job hunt will probably follow the hangover.
down size, re-deploy (many to the unemploy) re-align… hmmm… what’s wrong with just saying “you’re fired”. It really sucks. Good luck to you.

it’s called a “force imbalance”!
I want Donald Trump
I hope all goes well for you. Last week an EVP here was overheard referring to ‘attrition’, his attempt at euphemism for the people he had just fired.
His basic strategy is that as American workers leave, he replaces them with Chinese workers(undergrad and grad students, actually), and fires anyone who gets in the way. Unfortunately, while he is saving a ton of money, his Chinese workers haven’t actually shipped anything useful. But we’re operating under the assumption that cost control is more important than revenue generation at this point.
At this point, we’re all joking about how we wish they’d just offer us a package. “You’re fired. Here’s a year’s salary, plus we’re vesting all your options.” Yes, please! But sadly, no. Only the people they don’t like get that deal. The rest of us have to keep working here.
I’m not sure if I will be happier staying or going at this point.
nineteen minutes to go…
I hear Inatrobe is hiring…
I will only work there if I can get a red stapler.
But let’s not jump to conclusions.
I could look out the window and see the squirrels, and they were merry.
Good luck man. So far I have survived seven rounds. We are sending most of our work to Asia. Here when we whack someone, we say they have been “selected to participate in Workforce Management”. Yea…right
ummm, yeeahhh. Make sure those tps reports get done.
I won’t prove it out here, but that shit never gets old to me.
“No man, no! I do believe you could get your ass kicked for saying something like that.”
i thought they were married
.
I see that we’re both in the same general area - I used to live in South Jersey, now I’m in Media PA. Would I recognize your company name?
You’d know my company, as would most people on the east coast. I’ve been through mergers, reorganizations, realignments etc. I was laid off once about 2 years ago, and managed to get a better job in the same company. Now, for the first time in years I have a job a like, and I do like the company despite all the prior change and incarnations. So guess what? Now my division is reorganizing. Even if I keep my position, I fear that the nature of my job will change and I won’t like it as much anymore. I’ll know within a month or two how I’ll be impacted. What fun.
Good luck.
Dude, that’s not even legal! Sicko.
don’t tell me you work for AT&T
