I think I’m going to purchase a full sleeve wetsuit for next season. I currently have a sleeveless that I rarely use, I’m a decent swimmer, and prefer not to use one. But I plan some races next summer in temps where I know I will want one. So, since I can’t just go try out different wetsuits, I need some opinions. Mostly interested in women’s fit - I’m 5’4’', and performance and feel in the shoulders. Any thoughts?
No question try a couple, then try a DeSoto. The separate top and low neck make it really great. Emilio lets you swim in it for a week or two and return it, if not satisfied. the newer ones are even better than my older model. which I love. Also, if you like you can get a separate sleeveless top for the warmer swims. Tribodyboarder tried one, he loves his.
I love my Ironman (now Blue Seventy) full suit.
what is your weight?
the 2XU suits offer amazing bouyancy and flexibility. also what price range are you thinking?
Niteen have some nice women specific wetsuits. I tried out a Nineteen Tsunami this year, it was so much more flexible, better fitting and easier to peel off than my old Orca Preditor which I find tight on the shoulders & arms. I’m barely 5’2" but relatively broad shouldered for my size so that might be a good option for you.
Yes, I’m a former swimmer, so slightly broader shoulders (but not as broad as 20 years ago when I swam). thanks
Not really worried about price, I think. Uh, I’m not sure I want to post my weight. Lets say its in line with my height, I’d say I’m average , not too thin, not too fat.
You might also give Aquaman suits a try. My better half wears an aquawoman suit and is very pleased with it. They have a good deal of flexibility and stretch.
the only reason i ask your weight is some suits fit different builds better.
coming from a swimming background as well, i love the 5mm “roll bar” panel on the side of the 2XU suits. as you extend, and roll onto your side, this helps maintain the same bouyancy, without sinking at all. really helps with speed.
you really do need to try a few on, and compare at least 2 suits. maybe wait until you go to an expo, or order a few from a shop, and return the one that doesnt fit as well.

I really like my Blue Seventy suit. I have a Helix in both long-sleeve and sleeveless. It is actually made for a WOMAN… imagine that! I used to have this horrible suit that made me feel sooo slow, but it kept wearing it b/c I couldn’t find another suit small enough (I’m 5’0" 93 lbs). But, Blue Seventy had just come out with their XS, and it fits like it was made for me! I actually tested it in a pool against my old suit, and I think I was 10 seconds faster per 200 yds with the Blue Seventy suit… obviously, you need the right suit for you, but the Helix gets my approval!
My Desota is great. I have the vest and T 1 full top and bibs. I am almost 60 inches with wide shoulder, big thighs, and smaller waist. The fit and comfort is outstanding.
