**born: **1972
hometown: wellseley, massachusetts
education: b.a… stanford university, urban planning, 1994
ht: 5’2" wt: 115.306 lbs (with haircut)
began racing: 1994
strengths: sprinting, criteriums, flat road races, 1040EZ tax form

**fact: **after thinking about it for 2+ solid years, nicole decided to get a full-facial tattoo that combined the markings of several species of tropical saltwater fish: the mahogany snapper, the queen angelfish, and the queen triggerfish (pictured below). although nicole finds she is frequently asked why she got a permanent FACE MASK that makes children cry when she puts on helmet safety clinics at schools, she says the decision was an easy one: because of her “love and respect for saltwater fish.” says nicole, “tropical saltwater fish are beautiful creatures and they roam underwater in complete tranquility - they are at one with their oceanic environment.” nicole further notes that “racing a criterium is a lot like swimming around a saltwater reef waiting for a great white shark to attack, and then at the last second swimming out of the way quickly so one of your teammates can be swallowed up instead.” for nicole, the connection between her tattoo and winning races will be a significant motivating factor this season - not only for herself, but for her teammates and sponsors as well.

• U.S. national champion, criterium, 2001
• 2nd geelong tour, stage, australia, 2004

• Runner Up 5th grade jump rope contest
• Honorable Mention: 7th Grade Science Fair

I am assuming that’s a parody of the US guy who got one and now has to undergo laser surgery to remove it so his sponsors will let him ride again. Great parody though!

Doesn’t look like it. All her teammates “Facts” seem like humorous jokes.

• Runner Up 5th grade jump rope contest

That’s awesome. I want that on my resume.

Actually, looking at their team website, I might apply for their Assistant Team Manager position!!! What a job that would be, driving these bunch of hotties all over the place.

Chris

I have no idea what that site is about, but it’s hilarious. Check out the Q&A… good stuff.

Interesting that there is such a strong political opinion on this web site, I wonder how their sponsors feel about this:

Yeah… and one of the riders is the “heir to the entire Ralph Lauren fortune”.

That’s great! But it really belongs over on the Lavender Room.

Lauran Gaffney is 5’8" and 205lbs ?

2006 Announcement: Ford-Basis Announces Women’s Cycling Team

Ford-Basis Women’s Cycling Team is officially announcing its roster for the 2006 season today. “I realized how late I was in posting our 2005 Ford-Basis team announcement, so I decided to be the first to post a 2006 announcement,” says team director, Nicole Freedman. “This legally binds our sponsors to another season, correct?”

Five riders return to the Ford-Basis cycling team.

2000 US Olympian and 2-time US National Champion, Nicole Freedman (Boston, MA) continues to mentor the developing squad. “…and this is how to wear a training bra,” she has been heard to encourage after a race. In 2005, Freedman posted five NRC victories including the Cascade Classic Twilight Criterium, the Atlanta WCCC 10k and the Valley of the Sun Road Race.

Also returning is the rider formerly known as Kristin Johnson, now Kristin Danielson (Durango, CO). A two time collegiate mountain bike national champion, Danielson capped off her first road season with a 4th place finish in the Estes Park Time Trial. Danielson recently married professional cyclist, Tom Danielson who races for Lance Armstrong’s Discovery Team. “I am so glad to have Tom on board, so I can get climbing tips from Kristin,” says Lance.

Equally electrifying, Kele Hulser (Seattle, WA) is marrying an engineer. She raced well too.

Chrissy Ruiter (Durango, CO), 14th at the Olympic Trials Road Race, 5 NRC podium spots in her first season, 5’9" 105, blond, all her front teeth, SINGLE is currently accepting proposals. Applicants must earn over 6 figures, not including the decimal point and have at least 12 letters and/or numbers following their names (ex: John Smith III, MD PHD…)

Rounding out the team, but not literally, are:

Lauren Gaffney (Nasvhille, TN) Collegiate National Road Champion, 2003
Alisha Little, (Holly Springs, North Carolina) 4th Tour of the Gila criterium, 2004
Marissa Asplund (Durango, CO) 1st Overall Tour of the Gila, Cat ¾ , 2004

In 2004 the Basis team won 5 NRC events and earned 15 podium spots. The logical next step, the team has decided to win every single NRC stage, one-day race and General Classification in 2005. As a secondary goal, “I would really like to see at least one rider move somewhere where it is possible to ride in the winter… and subsequently overtake the house and relocate the entire team there,” says one rider wishing to remain anonymous.

As always, the team is dedicated to its core mission: to provide a supportive, nurturing environment from which to develop Olympic talent. The team will compete in over 80 national racing calendar events and select international events. Ford-Basis is supported by title sponsors Ford Motor Company and Basis Facial Cleanser.

“We’re very happy to have a structure in place that allows us to continue our support of
this cycling program.” said Jack Palazzolo, Ford’s Director of Marketing
Communications. “We’ve dedicated ourselves to the continued growth and future of
biking as a sport, a recreational activity, and a lifestyle. These women embody the spirit of that lifestyle and Ford is proud to supply vehicles to support them in achieving their goals, such as the new Escape Hybrid, that can take you anywhere you want to go.”

Basis, title sponsor, is a line of facial soaps and cleansers manufactured by Beiersdorf Inc., a leading skin care company located in Wilton, CT with headquarters in Hamburg, Germany. Basis Soaps and Cleansers are specially formulated with gentle cleansing ingredients and natural botanicals to leave skin feeling refreshingly clean. Over the past year, Basis has focused its marketing efforts on reaching the female outdoor enthusiast. “Basis is very excited about supporting the Women’s Cycling Team. We believe the team exemplifies our philosophy and helps to reinforce the Basis message by continuing our support for the female outdoor enthusiast,” says Irene Valles, Director of Marketing and Business Development for Beiersdorf.

Special Events: Come join Ford-basis for our annual “Ride with the Pro’s” training camp event, March 15-18th. For $8,200 you will be flown to international vacation hotspot, Ruidoso, NM, where you get to share the laundry room with the team mechanic, ride the trainer next to professional women cyclists, dine with the champions on their bill ($.55 biggie upgrade extra) and head home with a free socks.

It’s makeup. If you click on the >>more nicole link you will see all of her pictures without the face paint. Based on her press release I get the impression that she is a bit of a jokester.

how about the white tatoo???

that’s not real. a face tatoo wouldn’t even look like that. it’s been digitally altered.

Once again you add some excellent hilarity to my day. This is a great site. even better than http://www.landoverbaptist.org/ or http://www.whitehouse.org/ (not the porn site…different)
