Fuel durning long bike rides

For long bike rides 4 Hours + etc, what suggestions do you guys have for carry your fuel. I am currently using Hammer Products (Sustained Energy, Perpetuem), so I can carry two water bottles with the calories and I am using an aero bottle on my aero bars with water…with the two water bottles will last approx. 2 hours, 1 per hour, and if i do not want to do a loop and come back to the car every two hours to refuel what tips do you guys have…I have carried extra powder in a zip lock and stop and remix the two bottles, I do not want to mount another 2 bottles behind my seat…thanks…

Arizona will be my first Iron distance, when you start the bike I will obviously have my two bottles etc, is there a point half way that you pick up a special needs bag, where I can leave more pre mixed fuel bottles???

Mix the perpetuem in your water bottles at a high concentration and then just stop for water refills as needed. That’s what I do. You can ride 6 hours on that. Throw in some gels (as needed) and endurolytes (important!) and you’re good to go all day.

For long training rides or races: Carry 4 - 6 energy bars in jersey pockets and two large bottles of water on the frame. Pick-up/stop as needed for water enroute.

If it’s a training ride, I just drink a 20oz bottle of Gatorade every hour. If I’m simulating race conditions, then I go with Carbo Pro/Cytomax and Carb Boom gels along with water.

or 2 gel flask filled with 5 gels packets in each which will give you 1000cals or thereabouts, over 4hrs that will give you 250 per hour, now if you started the ride well fueled by breakfast then probably dont need much in the first 40mis to an hr, so you will have 300 cals an hr.

During your race (IMAZ) you will have ‘Special Needs Bags’ for both the bike and run. These are given to you at about half way. You can put whatever you want in them, including your pre-mixed SE or Perpentum. You drop off these bags the morning of the race, before the start.

For training, I also carry extra powder to mix along the way.
