Fuel belt, endurolytes. how?

i bought a fuel belt for an upcoming marathon along with the pill tube. tested it out on a long run, but the endurolytes all stuck together in the tube for some reason and wouldn’t come out. i plan on wearing tri shorts with no pockets.

where do others put their salt tablets (or prevent from sticking together in tube), painkillers etc if you’re wearing lycra tri-shorts with no pockets?

sorry for another dumb question and thanks for your (always good) advice,

cyclisto

Ah, why wear a fuelbelt for a marathon? Best supported run you will ever do! Is it supposed to be hot?

At any rate, if you must have salt tabs/ibuprofen or whatever - you can get one of the small AM/PM pill dispensers (2 compartments, flat) and put it under a wristband opposite your watch. Minimal weight and easy to get too.

hi rroof

great idea, thanks! yes, superhot marathon with no food/gels. need fuelbelt to hold gels.

hahaha!! “crack baggies.”

another great idea.

thanks guys!

I honestly prefer to ‘dilute’ the salt caps in the gel vs taking (1) at a time and do this by dumping the caps into the gel bottles before the race. My reasoning for this is:

  1. Assuming you’ll be taking the gels at a fairly even cycle through the race, it keeps the stream of electrolytes even vs (1) large amount all at 1-time (ie if you’re taking the caps 1-2x /hr which leaves large windows of time where you aren’t taking any).

  2. The amount of water you need to consume w/ each capsule is fairly high if you want to avoid GI distress. By spreading the intake out, you’d simply chase each hit of gel w/ an adequate amount of water and you should be fine.

Basically what I do is empty the gels into one of the FuelBelt bottles or dump the gels into a bowl. In the bowl I’ll empty the contents of however many electrolye caps I need for that day (probably 1-2 /FuelBelt bottle) and stir it up. I’ll then dump the mix into the FuelBelt bottle and I’m ready to go.

Just another way to do it - best of luck!

Tic Tac Containers (free, but sometimes hard to get salt tabs out)

Rubber Coin Purses (convenient, but not sweat/rain resistant)

35mm or APS film canisters (free if you have a camera, water resistant, requires two hands to operate, two loose pieces)

Premix w/ Gel into flasks (foolproof, but requires pre-race salt planning – no flexibility)

Mini ziplock baggie (from hobby shops like “Michael’s”, cheap, water resistant, two hands to operate)

InfinIT concentrate in fuel belt flasks
