FSA vs Shimano Chainrings?

Looking to replace my 53/39 DA chainrings with a FSA 54 or 55. Any feedback on FSA rings? Can you mix a FSA big ring with a DA small? If you go with a 54 or 55 tooth can you still run a 39 small ring?

Thanks for any info.

Make sure you get 2006 chain rings–not 2005 (some of them weren’t quite up to snuff and it’s since been corrected).

The maximum difference between the front two rings should be available in the owner’s manual. I know campy’s are available online.

You could run a 55 with a 39, you would have to accept some loss of shifting smoothness though. You might want to put on a compact or triple derailleur as they are designed to deal with a greater range than 14T which is all a normal FD is rated for. My 54 FSA “big dog” works pretty well though it’s not as straight as I would like.
