Fsa slk or energy brakeset? any reviews?

i cheaped out on my brakes last year and am replacing them this winter. I got tektros, they worked well, but got rusty and i cant stand it.

  • i started with d/a 7800 to match components, but they are pricy and i like the idea of black calipers.
  • mavic ssc has no quick release lever which would get annoying
  • the fsa energy brakes look ok and are affordable but have chromo hardware so i worry about scratching it and getting more rust.
  • the fsa SLK set looks great, is light, has Ti hardware, but i cant find any reviews. anyone use these or seen them anywhere?
  • edit - also, any thoughts on tektro r750?

also, is nokon housing worthwhile?

TIA
paul

You need these AX Lightness carbon brakeset - 97g the pair. I dont think they would stop you but they look cool and 97 GRAMS FOR THE PAIR!!! Oh and they are also a bit pricey…

i just ordered 2 sets, what is your adress so i can send you the extra one?

seriously though, there is no way those things can work. i think i am giving the FSA SLK’s a shot. i have plenty of other fsa stuff on the bike and it works well.

FSA will help in the corrosion resistance. I have one on the back of one of my bikes. The brake’s location submits it to lots of moisture and it remains rust free. Its performance is no different than that of the tektros however.

thanks for the tip, i ended up with a D/A set off ebay. same price as a fsa slk. ill have to get used to the non black components.

I installed the energy brakes on our first run of new bikes because of the weight and the dual compound pads. Very nice! I rode them on our 2 test bikes for a few hundred miles, they hold as well as the Shimano brakes that I also really liked and are lighter. They are alot more substantial than the cheaper Tektro offerings. They come with extra spacing washers just in case you have an odd set of forks. FSA really did their homework on these. You can see them on or Ti bikes at rmstriathlon.com .
