Glad to finally purchase something from you.

Just out of curiousity, is there a purpose for that wing do-dad at the end of the bars?

A few questions:

is the wing do-dad removable?

if one wants, are the elbow support assemblies fully removable?

is this an itu draft-legal bar?

Thanks…

Thank you james. I sincerely appreciate it.

And my apologies retroactively for shamelesslay hawking goods here. For those of you calling the store three times a day from Hong Kong looking for these I was hoping it would be considered a service in view of the shortage of these.

Oh, come on Tom… we all know that you use this forum for your commercial use (i.e. sell stuff from your store) but at least with the Asos jerseys thread you thinly veiled that one as the “photo shoot”, as I suspect the bike short shootout will be another good way to sell shorts from your store… but this is just blatanly a thread belonging in the “classifieds”. Be a little more creative like you are in your other posts and describe the purpose of the wingy-thing, then slip in that you have lots of them for sale :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey Greg,

Yup, the little air foil section can be removed. It is held in place by quite an elegant and ingenious little system of hidden bolts that are easy to use. Very nice.

The little airfoil is a comfort concession that enables you to grasp the end of the bar more comfortably and provides a nice, comfortable support for your thmb. I feel it works very, very well and have it on my bike:

As you can see by this photo, the bars do not protrude past the brake levers- even on smaller Campagnolo Ergopower levers, and are well behind Shimano Dura-Ace or Ultegra, which are longer. They are therefore in compliance with current ITU aerobar regulations for draft legal events.

The elbow pad unit and mount is modular, can be substituted for the full-size “deluxe” model seen on full-length FSA/Visiontech aerobars sold in th 230, 250, 270 and 290 millimetrs lengths. It can be completely removed should you so desire, and/or replaced by the full size aerobar pad. It can be ridden with no pads whatsoever as well.

Thanks for posting here in this forum, Tom. I rarely check the classifieds and surely would have missed out. There are those of us that have been waiting for these for months and want them for training without having to purchase a substitute in the meantime.

For these people and for those people you were trying to serve, which is your business, you did the right thing.

I buy plenty of stuff from my LBS. It’s high time I gave business to the person I derive so much knowledge from. Thanks again!

James

Tom,

I love the look of these bars, but the problem I see with them is that the pads are mounted right at top-bar location. It seems to me from my experience, that the better fit options with these shorty bars, in their best application on a road bike, are when you have the pads mounted behind the top bar.

What are your thoughts on this?

Fleck

Sweet post, dude.

Yeah, and there is some truth to this for sure. That (behind the base bar) design has some merit since it supports your elbows better.

However, that design really compromises the use of the upper portion of the drop handlebar for upright climbing and just riding along restfully at a moderate/easy speed while seated more upright with your hands on top of the bars.

With the design where the elbow pads behind the base bar, you lose the upright posture since the pads are generally much larger and too far back. Another annoyance is that they firmly hit my knees when climbing out of the saddle. That is a big part of the reason I like these.

They are what they are: Shorty aerobars intended specifically for road bikes for short interval use. I appreciate that they are purpose built/designed for that specific application. They aren’t trying to do two things at once. Therefore they do one thing quite well IMO.

A few days ago someone asked on this forum how long you can comfortably ride aero in these as compared to a full length aerobar. Over the past few days I’ve done some hard efforts in the aerobars that lasted up to 10 minutes and I was 100% fine and comfortable. The comfort would be extended to “indefinate” (in other words, you could ride them as long as you cared to in the aero position) by installing the “Deluxe” model aerobar pad which is sold with either a “Deluxe” thick cushion or a thinish neoprene, firmer, closed cell foam type “Thin” aerobar pad.

I like 'em.

do you know if they will work with the alpha q prolite bar? ie will they clamp close enough to the stem to avoid the bulge in the bar? If so I’ll be calling to order soon. thanks

Hmmm. I do not know for a fact, but my feeling is they are likely to not work. They need a 26.0 dimeter bar to clamp onto.

There is an adapter from FSA/Visiontech for 31.8 mm but I am not a huge fan of it to be honest.

“we all know that you use this forum for your commercial use”

…and when he posts 10 follow-up posts to help define some of the customers questions and we all benefit from reading them - what do you call that?

i’ll probably read Tom’s post…thank him for it…and then pick up a pair at my LBS…no offense to Tom, but if my buddies at Emery’s can get’em…I’ll buy them there. But - I’ll be happy to read all about Tom’s view of them…he’s part of the reason I’ve bought new bikes that I’d never know about if it weren’t for him.

for someone who gives as much time and thought to each post - he deserves to profit from it.

get over it.

and thanks Tom.

…and when he posts 10 follow-up posts to help define some of the customers questions and we all benefit from reading them - what do you call that?

It’s called advertising… get over it.

…Then don’t read the posts…the title was a give a way…if it was a real problem - Slowman would have done something about it.

Or, better yet, never buy something from Tom and really stick it to him!

Don’t be so naive…

my god folks…who cares who sells what here? Seems like a great deal to me.

…really, explain again was what wrong? a guy with like 8,000 posts on a FREE interenet forum…who is a well respected an expert in many related subjects posts the fact he has a very hot item in stock…this is a problem that you really get bent over?

this topic has been debated at length in other posts…no one has ever made a good case that the posts shouldn’t be welcome.

As I said… don’t be so naive…
