FSA crank removal making me insane -

Team issue carbon cranks, trying to swap out for my SRM. Ok, so I’ve only done this about a million damn times on other bikes, but I can not get this friggin thing off.

First item - plastic dust covers? kinda cheap, no? - whatever

Second item - the bolts DO NOT MOVE. Like AT ALL… I have a really long hex wrench for plenty of torque, but no go. I’m at the point of wondering if they were welded on at the cervelo factory (this is on my P3).

anyone have experience with these cranks being this much of a pain ?

Sounds like someone cranked on them a little bit too had when it was built up! Try a longer handle on the wrench… and be careful.

Sorry, but I never had a problem. You need a crank puller, at least on mine, but it is not a problem at all.

Sounds like your installer overtightened the bolts and didn’t use grease. Good luck.

make sure the crank-bolt washer is not in the crank-bolt hole. that could be disasterous!

yeah, copy that driver - screw this - I’m going to the LBS…

I had the same thing happen with the right side, It took hours of penetrating oil to break it loose, just be patient, it will come out. Also pull the 2 screws out on the bottom that hold the cable guide in place, some knucklehead put the wrong size screws in either at the cervelo factory or the LBS and ended up screwing up my bottom bracket when I removed it.

.

I’m sure you already know this, but make sure to run counter-clockwise on drive side and clockwise on the other side.

Just removed the same cranks from a brand new P3 yesterday and had the same problem. Whoever assembled it at Cervelo had it cranked way too tight. I wouldn’t be suprised if they use a pneumatic tool turned up a little too high! It took some time and care but I finally CRACKED it loose. Personally, I wish they wouldn’t send high-end bikes “factory assembled”, I prefer to do the complete build myself and have it done right.
