Front wheel carrier recommendation

I’m looking to carry a 700C wheel on a car-mounted bike rack that provides only skewer attachments.

I have a two bike, hitch mount carrier – super old, no idea of the brand. Each channel for a bike has a fork mount up front (so, wheel-off) and a velcro tie down for the back wheel. Works great, but I’ve recently swapped vehicles. Previously, the front wheel went into the trunk. The trunk of my new car is too small to hold a wheel (Mazda MX-5). So, the front wheel now rides shotgun, which is less than ideal. I’d like to mount the front wheel on the rack. After some searching, I found two possibilities: the Sea Sucker Hogg (https://www.seasucker.com/products/hogg) and the Steep Grade Wheel Holder (https://www.steepgrade.bike/products/wheel-holders?variant=4508080645). The Thule TH593 might be adaptable to my set up, but I’d need detailed dimensions (https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Thule/TH593.html). The Hogg uses a special, threaded rear wheel skewer nut. Seems OK, but a hassle for multiple bikes (or you can purchase multiple wheel skewer nuts). The Steep Grade is a rig that hangs off the bike top tube. Looks fine for inside a truck bed / minvan / SUV but maybe less so out in the wind behind my vehicle. Also, my race bike top tube is not round, so more measurements there, too.

Any feedback about these choices? Better solutions? What I really need is something that looks like a bike fork at each end – one end mounted in the rack and one end holds the wheel…

My carrier is totally home made but if you have the space and tools this might work.

I have a square tube that runs out in the middle (left to right). I cut two one inch long pieces of angle iron. Then bolted these to that square tube. I then cut two lengths of aluminum flat bar. The flat bar is bolted to the angle iron pieces. These then form pivoting wheel mounts.

I mounted two sets so a wheel holder for each of the two bikes mounted.

This does require enough room between the bikes to work.
