Front derailleur replacement problems

I thought that I’d do a quick front dr replacement this morning and go ride. An hr and a half later, much swearing included, I’m ready to put the old one back on, post for help. and go ride.
Replacing a 9yr old DA with an Ultegra R6703B, which is STI but I was assured that it would work for my bar end shifters on the aero bars. No matter what I do, the cage won’t swing out far enough to lift the chain onto the large CR. Derailleur height is correct, cage is parallel to the large CR. In fact, I even tried to angle it out to see if that would help. Instructions say to turn the top adjustment screw ccw to move the cage away from the frame, but I can back that sucker all the way out and it still won’t travel far enough. I’ve played with both adj screws out of desperation, with no success. It seems that there isn’t enough movement there to swing the cage out far enough. Any ideas?? Thanks.

are you sure your FD is for a double crankset? 6703 is for triples i think…

SON OF A …!!! You’re right, although I’d think that would give it more swing than I would need and I’d be adjusting it in instead of trying to get it to swing out, wouldn’t I??

no triples are designed to require 2 clicks from a road shifter to cover the distance of 3 chainrings. so the bar end shifter may not generate enough travel.

I didn’t realize that this question got posted over here rather than on the forum yesterday. I’m with you, that’s the only explanation that makes sense given what I’ve tried. Stupid mistake when ordering on the web in a hurry. Thanks.
