I am riding 650 wheels with front rings of 53/42. I will spin out on descents as a result of the “small” big ring.
I am curious what other people on here that are riding 650 wheels have for their chainrings and what you would recommend.
My longest gear is 53x11 which is slightly longer than the 700c 53x12 equivalent. Not spun out with it yet.
55/44 with 21-11 for very flat races. 55/42 with 23/11 for rollers. 53/39 with 25/12 for very steep long hills.
55-44 with a 12-23 rear, came stock on the bike and never found a reason to change it. It’s fairly flat around here though.
To match 700 gearing with a 53-39 you will need to go to a 57-42 which for me is way too much gear to pull.
