From 16+ to Kona?

Just curious. Wonder if anyone out there could be ST’s “most improved”.
I do have a friend that was 16+ at her first IM and later has a PR of around 11:30.
Anyone else?

(I’m hoping to inspire some folks and get inspired myself!)

trackie clm made huge improvements over the years too… pretty sure she was 16+ and has since made it to Kona. Other chicks that come to mind are Miranda (jeez she’s fast), Hallie, Monica…

I took 3hrs off my 1/2 IM time.

Oliver 1/2 2004 - 8:31:29
Oliver 1/2 2008 - 5:35:32
Victoria 1/2 2008 - 5:19:23

Still not fast, but it’s getting better…

What do I win?

Was Miranda ever “slow”? I think she’s just gone from “pretty quick” to faster and faster and faster…

Didn’t you ride a fixie for that first Oliver?

I’d also add to this list YVR K. She’s made huge improvements in her running in particular.

Well yeah… *Being “smart” wasn’t a requirement… *

Okay, fine - I went 8:17:17 in 2006 on similar (meaning no) training.

and then Paulo whipped you into shape, right?

Our HIM PRs are similar, by the way.

Working with Paulo in 2005 I went 5:57:12 at Victoria.

That was followed by a few years spent on the road for work (20-26 days/month) where I didn’t do any training at all but still “raced” using a just show up and give’r strategy (not recommended).

In 2008 I worked with Will Ronco (muffin top) and got the results posted above. Will had the advantage of not “starting from scratch” with me both as an athlete as well as personally as we’d been friends for a few years, but I still like to bug Paulo and tell him that Will is obviously a better coach - just look at what he was able to accomplish with me!

MuffinTop is an amazing muffin. He must be a blueberry one, don’t you think? Blueberry are the best muffins.

Isn’t Victoria short?

Quiet, you!
.

LOL! How short

We should have a TC vs Khai smackdown sometime. When your shoulder is better and stuff.

Well, it’s not 16+ to Kona, but I went from 13:33 at IMAZ 07 to 11:03 at IMAZ 08 (nov) …I thought that was a pretty good improvement!

hell yeah it is. how was your last race btw? AP

Good & good! Raced the last 2 weekends, Xterra Real in California on March 29: won my AG, Cookin’ in the Kettles Mountain bike race last week at Whidbey Island: won overall … so, so far, so good… next race is Xterra West Champs in Las Vegas May 2nd…

What’s your next race?

What’s this with all the ST womens wanting to kick my ass? I blame Andy - she started it!

The bike course changes a bit from year to year but last year it was 87km.
The run is just over 20k. More importantly (for me) however, is that it’s mostly shaded and in the trails.

No. Just wanting to meet you. Racing is a good excuse.

You’d kill me on the bike at least!

Because we know we can. :stuck_out_tongue:
