Friggin' chest cold...home remedies?

Can’t believe that I’ve been hacking for the past two days. I’m the cycling half of a team in a duathlon on Sunday but I can’t do it unless I get better real soon. I’ve been hydrating on green tea/honey, popping echinachea with vitiman C and using over the counter cold remedies. I know there really is no cure for the common cold other than to tough it out. Looks like I may end up sitting this one out.

Any other suggestions for home remedies to try?

tried buckley’s yet? it’ll either kill ya’ or cure ya’

hope you are feeling better soon

k

Yes, forgot to mention that I’m also using Buckley’s. Tastes like sh*t but it does seem to help.

I used a liquid echinechia, it tastes like death but works.

Also you can try getting really hammered. Make your body a hostile environment and drive out the cold bug. I suggest using beer and shots of yeager. If nothing else you will feel so good after you recover from the hangover that you won’t notice the cold!

“Also you can try getting really hammered”

Tried that a couple of times to get rid of a cold/flu. Both times I used Absolut vodka and orange juice. It worked great the first time but the second time I not only had the same symptoms but a whopper of a hangover as well. It seems to be a hit and miss remedy.

Here’s the answer:

  1. Pour 3-4 fingers of scotch into a tumbler.
  2. Squeeze the juice of one large lemon into the tumbler.
  3. Stir in 2-3 tablespoons of honey into the tumbler.
  4. Using the above mentioned tablespoon gradually transfer the liquid from the tumbler into your mouth until you’ve emptied the tumbler.

Maybe you should give yourself an adjustment. Some of the DC’s around here claim it will cure anything

No other choice than to find a friend (or twin living inside you or out) with the matching blood type and have him give you some… Then not only will you be able to compete, you’ll definintely win! (sorry, couldn’t resist)

My little sweetie had her relatives up from the U.S. this past weekend. And her uncle swore by this stuff called “Cold-EZ” or something like that. I think it’s basically a concentrated shot of Zinc. I don’t think we have it up here in Canuckland yet. Worth a try though

A good southern remedy…

Cup of hot tea, lemon, honey and add enough Jack Daniels to make the room spin. go to bed, get under the covers and sweat. You’ll be a new man in the morning!

In Canada we have a product called “Cold-FX”. Info can be seen at www.cvtechnologies.com. This product has been proven scientifically to reduce the duration and severity of colds (according to the website). It appears to be cutting edge stuff. I have used it and it worked. It is used commonly now by professional sports teams. I believe they will start marketing internationally soon. They are a publically traded company. I do not own the stock. I hope to before the rest of the world finds out about this stuff.

Forgive my ignorance – what’s Buckley’s?

I had an awful chest cold recently - lasted two weeks. Hit it with the following (probably overkill but I had a race to worry about too):

Emergen-C
Airborne
Zinc Lozenges (that’s what Cold-Eeze is)
Odwalla juices with antioxidants
Multivitamins
“Cold Snap” - A Chinese herbal blend you can get at Whole Foods

And, what I think actually finally did the trick:
Lots of tea - various formulations available, the one I used was called “Gypsy Cold Care” - poured over freshly-cut ginger (lots of it) and raw honey - cover the tea mug with a small plate or something to trap the steam, and let steep for 15 minutes. Rinse and repeat. If you get sick of hte tea just drink the steeped ginger and honey.

When I was in school, keep in mind it wasn’t medical school but PT school so take this fwiw, this is what we were told about the common cold and ALL of the remedies pharmaceutical, homeopathic, witch’s brew or otherwise. If you take any of the said remedies you will likely resolve your symptoms in 7 days, if you do nothing your cold will go away on it’s own in about a week.

Gypsy Cold Care–I like that tea for colds. I also like the Throat Coat one and the Breathe Easy one for allergies. The are very soothing. I don’t know if they shorten the duration, but they sure make it feel better.

Thanks for the reminder about these. I am having horrific allergies right now, and it’s just what i need.

Try Mormon Tea or ephedra supercaps.

The stuff tastes terrible but it does help control the coughing. Looks like I’m bagging the race since I’m still coughing big time.
