My wife and I are going to be in France from July 12-22, amazingly, we did not plan to watch the tour at all, but now we are kind of getting the itch. It looks like the best (most feasible) stage and worthy of watching ends in Briancon. Does anyone know how long by train and how feasible it is to get from Nice to Briancon and back?
Thanks,
Steve
eef you want travel at briancon by zee train, must to look at zee page web zat ees at www.sncf.fr
but must also bee finding out where ees zee tour exactement, and ees eet close zee train station.
(that’s my best stab at a frenchman’s answer. in short: www.sncf.fr - although it looks like http://www.voyages-sncf.com might be a bit easier.
oh, and it looks like a bitch of a train ride - all day, change in marseille, etc. but i just took a quick look).
Actually, to check train schedules go to:
http://www.voyages-sncf.com/leisure/fr/launch/home/
However, I’d really consider renting a car and driving. By train it’s a pain (you can check above) because you go through Marseille, wait, change trains…
By car, it’s roughly a 3h30 drive. So perfectly doable in a day. Drive there. Watch the Tour and back. Or go the day before. By train, you’ll waste 2 days traveling or close…
Check www.iti.fr for driving directions.
