Ironman coaches Patrick McCrann and Rich Strauss will host a FREE webinar for all Ironman USA athletes. Patrick and Rich will discuss the pacing, nutritional, and mental strategies they’ve used to bring over 400 coached athletes across Ironman finish lines. During the session you will see the coaches’ desktops as they deliver their presentation to you live via your phone line. Rich and Patrick will answer questions afterwards, submitted by the audience via webchat. The webinar will be made available as a podcast afterwards for all those who can not attend.
The webinar will cover the specifics of racing the challenging Lake Placid course including a blow-by-blow of the bike course presented by Patrick using GoogleMaps. However, the majority of the talk is applicable to all Iron distance races and will be a valuable resource for all Ironman athletes.

The Coaches
Patrick McCrann has been a long-distance triathlon coach for over five years, and recently published his first book: “Competitive Triathlon in 10 Hours A Week.” Patrick has raced IM USA four times, will race next weekend, and with more than 40 laps under his belt could probably ride the course in his sleep.

Rich Strauss has been coaching Ironman athletes exclusively since 2001. He has delivered his pre-race talk at seven Ironman races, most recently at IMCDA ’07, where over sixty competitors gathered to hear his talk.

Between them, Rich and Patrick have eleven years of Ironman coaching, fifteen successful Ironman finishes, over 400 successful Ironman finishers, and thousands of hours teaching age-group athletes how to race a successful Ironman.

I’d appreciate the reader generated bump from time to time on this one, as I know it will drop quickly off the front-page due to TdF, iPods, and other fun stuff

Could you tell me what ***"***live via your phone line" means? It sounds pretty interesting, but I don’t have a land line.

-Colin

Patrick will send you instructions for how to access the webinar. You will receive:
A linkA login and passwordA phone number to call so you can listen to the presentation. The phone line is one-way, ie, you hear us but we don’t hear you. However, you will see our desktops as we present and can ask questions via webchat, which we will answer via voice.

FYI, the phone number will likely NOT be toll-free on your end. If the webinar is very well attended a toll-free number becomes very expensive for us. Between that, calling plans on landlines, cell phones, VOIP, etc, for now we prefer to keep it simple and ask you to handle that end.

& how do you register for the webminar?
Thanks,
Fred.

The instructions to register are in the original post from Rich.

Sorry, I’ve added a registration link to the original post. Saves us both a step or three.

Cool Thanks.
Fred.

Over 80 folks have decided to join us this evening. In the “neat” column, Patrick will discuss the bike course in great detail, using a 3d flyover in Google Earth. Again, this is a free session.

Hi Rich, any thoughts on doing one of these before Canada?

Cheers,

Bob

Yes, we intend to make this a series, compiling a library of webinars for each major race.

95 people signed up and 2hrs till kick off. I’ll actually be in the cab of my truck in the parking lot of a local starbucks, as the wifi is better there than in my house

Great webinar!

I’ll be excited to listen again when IM WI is previewed. Having done LP before, it was great to have some insight on what I SHOULD have done 2 years ago.

Thanks Rich. I’ll drop by next week to say hi in person!

Thanks for the feedback. It was a great experience for us as well. I wasn’t happy with the quality of the audio but have found a solution. If you’d like to add any more thoughts and suggestions I’ve started a thread over on my site: CrucibleFitness.com is for sale | HugeDomains

Yes, we will do these for each IMNA race as well as one of us delivering a pre-race talk, in person, at the races themselves. Patrick and I will be doing a talk at LP next weekend, then I’ll be at KY and WI. One of us will be at Kona and FL is still in the air.

Thanks again, I’m eager to dial this in and add it to my toolkit. MUCH better than typing and writing

Thought it was an excellent presentation. Amazing use of technology as well—very cool.

I missed this…any chance it’s archived somewhere?

Thanks! We ended the presentation, hung up, called each other and almost at the same time said “that was friggin’ cool!” I’m just not happy with the resultant audio but we’re working to fix that before we deliver the finished product to you. One of my clients also pointed out some before the webcast preparation and procedures we can follow (putting things in your hands before the session, getting things from you, etc) to make the experience smoother and more valuable on both ends.

With regards to making the broadcast available, we are doing these with the intention of creating a product that we can sell as a downloadable file. Kinda of the hotrod version of my swim clinic ebook. For example, the webinar broadcast was free but we’re going to bundle and sell the file with a VERY comprehensive racebook that Patrick has prepared + the .kml file for Google Earth, with his notes on the course, etc. The end product will be multimedia presentation with two guys talking about how you should race any Ironman, with a pretty cool discussion of the course using the 3d flyover tools of Google Earth + a 20+ page race book + the .kml file so you can play around with it all you like on your computer.

Anyway, exciting things so expect to hear more from us.
