I have been fortunate enough that while traveling and doing the thing we do I have run into some of the most generous people in the world. It started in New Zealand.
With a family that I didn’t know. While in Kona one year I ran into a german student during his walkabout. I gave him the address of the family in NZ and I contacted them. He stayed with them for a month. There sons were around the same age and a little latter on they went and traveled to Europe and Germany. Where they got jobs, wives and new businesses. Funny how just extending a hand can change a life…or a least influence one. This is one of the most gracious things I think a human can do…to offer help to someone you don’t know.
Real good idea. I’d start a spreadsheet (a la Prkito in the virtual training camp thread) with the username, location, and proximity to key races for anyone that signs up. For instance, you could include me, brburns, resident of Putney, VT, close to the Vermont Journey Half and the Greenfield MA oly. Good luck.

Before anyone questions my knowledge of geography (I know I am not in North America). I have a spare room and am 35 minutes driving time from IMUK course and would be happy to put up a homestay. Am looking at Xterra Richmond, Cycle to the Sun, Maui and Alcatraz in the next couple of seasons.
Been doing it a long time and it’s a great idea. Like Dusty said, you can meet some of the best people in the world, and some even become life-long and very good friends. Of course, you can run into the occasional toad, which Amy White and I had the misfortune to do, but overall, a great experience.
This is tempting. I grew up in Cleveland and my wife Jody has never been there. I left in 78 for the Marine Corps. Came back in 82, left again in 84, came back in Jan of 87 and left for the last time in Jan of 90. It would be fun to go back. I now live in Billings Mt. The unique race we have here is “Peaks to Praries”. All down hill starting from the base of the Beartooth mnts.( where you enter yellowstone park). 9 mile run, 43 mile bike, 23 mile kayak.(I did the kayak never being in one before). Or you can do a duathalon of 9- 60-6. Very local fun, self supported, family type race where everyone has been doing it for years. Even beer at the end.
