I recently bought my plane ticket to the florida half ironman through ironman’s website and received the no charge bike shipping coupon even though the ticket wasn’t to Orlando (I am flying into Miami). My question is does this work for any flight that you buy on Ironmanlive.com or does it have to be to a location near an Ironman on a date around said ironman.
I am not sure of the answer to your question, but I will tell you one thing:
It looks like very shortly bicycles will not be allowed on airplanes. The restrictions now are boderline and getting exceedingly worse. I know of people who with a free bike voucher from airlines like United who still had to pay $190 each way. They say the voucher covers the fact that it is a bicycle, however, the bike case is deemed oversized and overweight, hence 2 charges. If you have a flimsy, light, box or bag to carry your bike, your bike has no chance of arriving safely. We must all contact our preferred airlines and complain or else very shortly we’ll be travelling by bus.
Interesting comments… I have flown with my bike maybe 12 times last year and didn’t have any problems. I guess it depends on the airline or more so, on who you get that day. I am sorry I am unable to answer the original question.
