I’m flying in from Canada. Two of us. With bike boxes. Probably be in Europe for 10days?
I got two choices for flights: Amsterdam or Frankfurt.
They are the cheapest direct mainland europe flights from here.
Which is the best country to rent a car?
Which will be easiest to get to Fredericia? Both seem about the same drive…
Any experienced Euro travellers have any tips on deals, etc…?
Frankfurt is a ‘better’ airport, meaning, it’s got more international connections, never had my luggage lost there or had any other problems. Amsterdam maybe has fewer connections…but I really dont know about either airport’s scandinavian connections. Might be Amsterdam is better for flying north.
Look for a connection to Denmark from Frankfurt. That should be your best bet.
Otherwise, why not fly into Hamburg? Then take the train to Fredericia. Seems like a much better deal than renting a car and driving. That’s pretty far.
Billund Airport is the Danish Airtport closest to Frederecia. Billund has direct connetions to both Amsterdam and Frankfurt, check out their website: http://www.billund-airport.dk/Home/Forside.aspx?lang=en
Billund is the town where the LEGO factories and Legoland are. The town and airport is basically build there becasue of LEGO.
Distances by car from Frederecia to…:
Billund Airport 52 km
Copenhagen Airport 216 km
Hamburg 267 km
Amsterdam 718 km
Frankfurt am Main 758 km (Make sure you don’t go to the other city Frankfurt an der Oder, there’s also an airport!)
I don’t know about car rental in Holland, but it’s much cheaper to rent a car in Germany than Denmark beause of Denmark has the world’s highest taxes on cars.
If you rent a car, make sure you are allowed to bring it outside the country. Some car rental companies only allow you to use the car witin the same country.
You could also take a ~4 hour train directly from Hamburg to Frederecia.
Check out Deutsch Bahn’s travel plans from Hamburg to Frederecia (in English) here at their online booking website: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
