Freakin' Park Floor Pump & Flat Tires

Does anyone get flats when they pull the pump nozzle off of their stem? I have a Park Tool floor pump and the nozzle is a bit tight. I get flats all the time when I try and pull the nozzle of the stem because it tears the tube at the base of the stem. It doesn’t matter if I go slow, wiggle it, whatever. It happens every 3-4th time. I’m not be mistaken for a genius, but there has got to be a simple solution to this costly problem.

I have had simular problems with the rims causing this more than the pump. I cut a small square out of an old tube and placed it over the valve stem before putting thru the rim. Adds a little extra material there that might help the matter.

Good advice. Thanks!

I have a 2 month old Park floor pump. The inflation head sucks ass. It worked OK for like 5 airings. It already is very difficult to put on, & extremely hard to remove. I can absolutely envision what is happening with the original poster’s pump. I only will use it now to inflate my kids’ tires with schrader valves.

I’m going back to another nashbar cheap-o special that worked flawlessly for 3 or 4 years.

I have a Pedros pump that is pretty expensive and is no better than the cheap Joe Blow Sport that I replaced it with. When in doubt, a pump is a pump. I have heard, though, that the Blackburn Air Tower 5 is amazingly good.
