Freak accident kills cyclist

**PLANO, Texas – **A freak cycling accident Sunday killed a North Texas father trying to achieve a dream.

Police said Allen resident Michael Mahoney, 52, was killed when he crashed his bicycle head-on into another being ridden by Jordan Miller.

Mahoney’s friends and family were stunned by his death.

“He was my hub,” Terry Blank said. “I revolved around him.”

The fatal crash happened on a stretch of road on Wynwood Drive, in Plano, frequented by professional cyclists. Each Tuesday, the road plays host to a cycle race.

Mahoney had been using the strip to train for an endurance ride.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

Miller was recovering at a local hospital.
