Frank gave us a moment to share his thoughts on the relay.
Sort of off topic, (not meant to hijack, but also not worthy of new thread);
did any or all of the powercrank team actually use Powercranks?
EDIT:: Oh yeah, this was a relay!!! Not a 3 person team!! OOps, dumb post.
Although I was not there, I heard the swimmer and runner used them but could not talk the cyclist into it!!!
So 100% of the cyclists in the team used PC ![]()
.
Alex M,
Thanks for the great headline, right to the point, and the link. I loved the interview. Enjoyed Tyler’s too, but not as much as Frank’s.
Never would have caught it (them) if it hadn’t been for you. Very worthwhile, at least for me.
Thanks, again.

Actually, the only member of the team that had heard of PowerCranks before becoming a member of the team was the swimmer. We had originally intended to have a team with all the members having trained on them, wanted even the biker to use them during the race. We thought we had Magnus to do the bike (on PowerCranks) but he had found out his schedule wouldn’t allow it. Our elite PC runner wanted a 40K appearance fee because he was scheduled to another race around this time and he would be giving this up.
At the last minute we were able to get an excellent biker and runner who we thought gave John a chance to win (we were working on this for 8 months and it was clearly a dream of his to give it a go). So, while most of the members of the team had not trained on the product I thought it was still worthwhile to support and it looks like both will be on them soon. In addition, it looks like our rider is going to get FISTed by Dan. (he needs it, he was clearly out of his element in a race like this, especially with the winds). I did get each of them on a PC bike the day before the race so they would know what the product was they were racing for.
So, we will just have to take solice that Eric Bean is a PowerCranker. He was one of the first pros to actually get on them, many years ago. He rode an awesome race.

Frank,
can you provide any financial requirements of sponsoring a team like this. For example the cost to enter a team to compete for the $100K, and the fees typically required to secure athletes of this caliber. Would the athletes get a portion of the $100k if they break 8 hours or is the $100k fully for the sponsor?

There were no requirements per se. Our original intent was to just provide the entry fee to facilitate those who were interested to get together but we covered some more when Hernan needed to come from Columbia to do the race as it was late and it looked like he would give us a good chance to be competitive for the win. Entry fee was $500 plus two one day licenses as I understand it. (J. Kenny covered it and I will reimburse him) For my part, any winnings would have gone entirely to the athletes.
