Francois Races!

Congrats to Francois on an 8th place finish in the Troika 1/2 Ironman in Washington State, looks like he smoked the bike with the 2nd fastest split!
8. Francois Modave 35 M 4:35:57 5 0:29:33 17 0:59 2:17:22 2 0:34 2 1:47:29 35 El Paso, TX

Met the man the myth the legend after the race. Affable and very fit (as you would expect). Troika was a great race: Rolling, fun bike course (not difficult but not boring) and a hot, shade-less run but with great support.

I think maybe I swam near him most of the swim (since we have about the same split) but I never knew it was him. Francois’ bike splits includes a couple extra minutes stopping to fix his chain. He rolled into T2 in first place but he said he was hurting on the run so was not too happy. His new bike is sweet.

Francois had a real tough day out there, many would have pulled out. I’m proud of him

NICE one Francois!!!

thanks man…sorry to hear about yours. You’ll have a blinder in Kona

Ditto here, except my run was super nasty after a mechanical issue on the bike… (those volunteers made all the difference)

Good job on finishing the race… I’m proud of both of you  Now on to IMWA!!!

way to kick ass!

kick ass isn’t exactly the word…with a 1h47’ “run”…

well 4:35 is faster than about 99% of the people on slowtwitch so that is kicking ass for most.

Hey, nice job finishing anyway, Francois. ‘Fast’ dudes like you don’t always do that … Hope the achilles gets better … I’m so sore today. That was my first half IM. Time to go for a miserable little recovery ride. At least the weather is nice out.

I HAD to finish this one…way too many DNFs…even though the pain was really bad (been limping for 2 days…)
anyway, good job out there dude. and congrats on stopping for the guy who crashed…

and thanks to whoever for the encouragements on the way back on the run…I heard ‘hey francois, slowtwitch got for it’ a couple of times and had no idea who it was.

francois, i am proud of you for finishing despite problems. That is huge. Things DO get better… hang in there:-)

Thanks. I saw it all happen 50 yards ahead of me so I knew I had to stop. His name is Joel Glass, 39, from Bellevue. The crash was really weird, I replay it in my mind and I really don’t how it happened. He may not either. There is a ton of room on the curve, so something unlucky and weird happened (gravel or a burst tire or something) … I found Joel’s address and will send him something as I feel horrible for him.

was it at the turn on main street?

Great job Francois!

Damn skippy. Just nail this running in the heat/bike fit issues, and it’ll all be good

Good job! Its tough finishing under such circumstances. I hope to see at IMOO, I will be volunteering.

btw, AP was easy to find out in the crowd…she was walking around with the cutest little girl…
