I use the forum archives a lot rather than asking questions that have been discussed 20 times over.
I know this is asking a lot, but has it ever been considered making a archive of threads in classifications? There are tons of great threads out there but they are hard to find sometimes when searching. I realize that it would be impossible to archive the old threads, but when making a new thread you could have check boxes as to what genre the thread will be and then it could be sent there after say 3 months of inactivity.
Possible genres could be:
-Bike fit
-Bike frames
-Tri clothes
-Race wheels
-training plans/info
-wetsuits
-tri event info
-general tri (not in the other catagories)
etc.
No Matt, you misunderstood my post. I want everything to go in the main forum so that everyone who wishes to reply will easily have the chance to do so, but after a post has three months of continuous inactivity it will filter into a genre of threads so that you can search them easily.
I seach the archives a lot and here is a typical example that happened the other day, i was searching for an IM training plan so i typed that in and i got many, many posts that were not at all related to training plans. If there was a subcatagory for old posts that i could search in the “training” folder that would be awesome. And it would cut down on the number of “race wheel” posts that we get per week
I think the way threads have a tendancy to change topics multiple times would further confuse the issue.
Yes,that was the part i couldn’t figure out, and the part i was hoping would be discussed. But i was hoing someone else might have a solution. Maybe if you are about to post a response that is off topic you could check the box of the other topic that you are about to change it to.
You would still be able to search “all archives” or you could choose “race wheel archives” or “training archives” to be more specific.
