Forte challenge tubulars

Hello,

I rented some race wheels with Vittoria EVO CX Tubulars and they sent me Forte Challenge tires instead. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with these tires and their rolling resistance. They weren’t tested on the bike tech review site. I almost feel like I should just use my training wheels with latex tubes and ProRace tires instead. What say you.

Forte is Performance Bike’s house brand. They usually contract from some other manufacturer who just slaps the Forte name on an existing product (ex. I have a Forte stem that is quite obviously a Deda Newton ). For some of the Forte saddles, the original mfgs name (Veloflex) is still part of the shell mold, and visible on the underside. See if you can find out what the tire “really” is and you can make the call.

If they are anything like their clincher counterparts, they are going to be dog slow. I bought some forte clinchers a few years back, and my avg training speeds dropped 5-10%. ie from 20-21 down to 19mph. They also felt squirrely for some reason. Got rid of them fast. Savings were not worth the loss.

No, those are “Challenge Forte” where the manufacturer is Challenge and the model is Forte. It’s a 200 gram tire with 300tpi construction, a decent quality tire for racing or time trails.

It’s just a freaking tire and from the sound of it it seems like a nice one, no worries.

I haven’t tested them but I Goodled the description and they seem like they would be very comparable to the Vittoria CX. 300 tpi at 265 grams from what I read. I think Roady has some experience with them and found them to be fast tires. IIRC Challenge is the new Clement.

msu = Michigan State ?? I’m from Michigan Tech.

Yea Michigan State. I have to make sure I finish Oceanside as fast as possible so I can watch the game

Great incentive - Tom Izzo is from Iron Mountain/Northern Michigan and coached for a year at Ishpeming HS but 12 years after I was gone. I played at Michigan Tech - no 3 pointers in the day but we got to wear hot pants (:-).

One of my professors went to michigan tech, I think he said back in his day he used to bring a case of beer with him to the football games
.

Antifreeze - they just put in an artificial turf field this year but those poor guys were a mess after games in freezing rain. A teamate was a very good receiver in high school but in no way did he consider playing football at Tech.

It looks like those tires are good enough for rock racing.
