Hi All, I will be in Fort Collins this weekend and I need a place to run. I am looking for a dirt trail that isn’t excessively hilly. I am looking to do about 8 miles. I used to live in FC about 10 years ago, but I wasn’t a runner then. All I can think of is the east side of the reservoir, but I don’t remember if there is a trail that goes all along it. I think Horsetooth and Lory Parks are too hilly. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Craig
I would run on the Poudre path. There is gravel or single track that runs along it almost the entire length (especially if you go West from Lee Martinez park). Otherwise you could run around behind the CSU stadium. A bit hillier, but still nice trails. Pick up a Fort Collins bicycle map at any bike shop when you get here, it will have most of the trails listed.

That sounds great, thanks. Do you know how long the poudre trail is?
start at maxwell trailhead and run around dixon res. Its approx 6 miles with lots of opportunities to loop back if you want. A slight uphill at the beginning, but otherwise pretty flat. So much more fun than the bike path. If you need directions to Maxwell, let me know.
The Poudre Trail is a paved MUT that runs (more or less) from the area of Mulberry/Timberline to Laporte (the town … not the street).
I’ll second the Maxwell Natural Area and Pine Ridge Natural Area trails. Dixon reservoir is located in Pine Ridge. I rode the trails on my mtn bike this afternoon and they are in great shape. The easiest way to get there is to take Horsetooth Rd. west until it ends at the new Spring Canyon Park. Park near the dog park, and pick up the trail that leads up and over the ridge. It’s a great run.
Ha Ha Ha. take a look at the forecast, and see whose trail will work best this weekend!?!?!
All kidding aside. Most of the Poudre trail has dirt or gravel options (especially the western half). I run it every day, I know it is there.
Sunday’s weather looks good, that is the day I am planning on running. Do you think the Dixon trail will be dry then? Sounds like Poudre will be.

If we get the snow and rain that is forecast, no. The Poudre Trail will be your best option. The city usually does a pretty good job of clearing the trails quickly after a snow storm. Damn spring snow. The weather dudes are saying this good be the biggest storm of the season.
not if there is 8 inches of snow by sat.
