Form fit file to Garmin on ios(iPad)

Anyone successful loading a Form fit file to Garmin on an iPad? I downloaded the fit file and can see it on my iPad “Files” app. When I try to upload on Garmin’s website from Chrome, when I Browse, the fit file is greyed out. I tried to share it with the Connect app, but that goes to “course” selection and doesn’t upload.

Any guidance is appreciated.

That sounds strange. I was going to suggest using Garmin Connect (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/import-data) from browser, which I use all the time to upload .fit files downloaded from Hammerhead.

This works from Android phone and Windows 11 laptop.

Do your files have the .fit extension?

Yes, I can see that it has the .fit extension and it does work on my windows 11 laptop. I have emailed the file to me and then uploaded it on my laptop, but I am trying to cut out hose extra steps and just use the iPad.

Is it zipped, perhaps? On the rare occasion when I have to do something with them on my iPad I have to unzip them first.

Is .fit the only file type you can download the Form data in?

Yes, Form downloads as zip, but Strava downloads as .fit. I don’t think either has the ability to download a different format other than csv.

I realized that when I look at the upload for Garmin, spreadsheet files are the only ones not greyed out. So I used Form to download the csv format. After unzipping it, I have a nice .csv file. But unfortunately Garmin pukes in it and gives an error. It doesn’t give any details, just a generic message that there was an error when trying to upload.

I can just wait until I’m where I can use my laptop, nut it’s a shame I can’t get these to work.

Appreciate the help.

If you go to the Files app after you download from Form and tap the zipped file, it should unzip for you to the .fit file, which should be upload-able. Is that the process that isn’t working?

Correct. It uncompressing the zip file, creating a fit file. But that fit file will not upload on Connect.

Seems like it should, but doesn’t. I can’t imagine I’m the only one who’s tried this. That’s why I was asking - just trying to see if anyone does this successfully and what steps they do.

Pretty sure a FIT file won’t work, but I think a GPX file will if you can download in that format.

Thanks, I will try to get a GPX file.

Unfortunately, I don’t see any way to download a GPX file. On Form the only options are fit and csv. On Strava (Form does load to Strava), the only option is fit (maybe because I don’t pay for the subscription?). On TrainingPeaks, it also only has fit files (again, may because I don’t pay for the subscription?).

Form only integrates with TP and Strava (also tridot, apple and finalsurge, but I don’t use these).

TP does feed workouts to Garmin, but not activities (as far as I can tell). I don’t know of any non-subscription training tool/app that will feed Garmin with activities (or at least I don’t know how to do this).

Ultimately, what I want is my activities in Intervals.icu. I thought the Strava connectivity would work, but it doesn’t. I have everything set up, and I see all my non-swimming activities. However, the only way to get swimming on there is through Garmin - unless I’m doing something terribly wrong, which may be the case.

I found a partial solution. I prefer to do my analysis on Intervals.icu. I was loading swims into Garmin because I thought that was the best way to get the details into Intervals.

What I found is I can upload a zip of the swim in Intervals. Interestingly, it doesn’t work for a fit file, but a zip is actually better because Form downloads the file as zip anyway.

Thanks for everyone’s help. It helped me think of different ways I could solve the problem.
