Anybody out there happen to know the rake on the stock fork on a '98 C’dale MS 800? A local club member has one, and he’s trying to replace it with a carbon fork. He wants the rake to match up, but he hasn’t had much luck getting help with this. He’s asked a few bike shops, including a C’dale dealer, and still no luck. Just wondering if anyone in slowtwitchland can help.
Has he removed the fork to check? It’s pretty common for this information to be printed on the fork steerer tube. If nothing else, he should be able to measure it by hand using a long straight edge and a ruler.
How would one measure the rake? Rake is something neither one of us understand, though we have tried. I guess I need to do a search on the forum for past fork rake discussions . . .
Rake is the distance between the dropouts and an imaginary line that extends parallel to the headtube.
So in the diagram below, it would be the distance between the line that defines the head angle and the line that defines the forward boundary of the front center. Rake is usually measured in millimeters.
