Fork prep article

I had to do some fork prep for the Carbonaero that is going onto my Power V. I thought this would be a good item to share with everyone.

Note that most pro bike team mechanics remove the paint from the dropouts of their team riders’ frames and forks to facilitate quick wheel changes. This oft-missed step in frame prep goes along with making certain that the head tube and BB shell are faced and square, as well as chasing the threads of bosses, etc.

I will also show how to properly remove the lawyer tabs of forks.

what about carbon dropouts (on 100% carbon forks), your thoughts?

Don’t touch them with sandpaper.

I hope they use some metal on the faces of the dropouts, or you would have one chewed-up dropout.

From my own experience:

Lawyer tabs safed my neck when one of the washers in those lightweight skewers of my front wheel broke during a race.

Without them the front wheel would have come out for sure at about 30 mph as I tried to “bunnyhop” a bump in the road.

I used to file them down too…not anymore.
