My wife wants pace/distance and HR, as well as cadence on the trainer. Costco has a bundle for 80 bucks that includes everything she needs minus cadence sensor on the bike and she can use my extra one from 305. Any reviews on the 50…is it pretty close to accurate with the footpod? Thanks
I dont know about the 50 but I used my 305 with a foot pod on an indoor track and it was telling me I was about a minute per mile faster than what I was getting with the GPS outdoors.
Its just an accelerometer, so it measures pace, which could change. So if you have a very consistent pace, which does not change, then it should be somewhat accurate.
I bought the forerunner 50 bundle at costco just for the foot pod. I used the footpod with my 305 and without calibration it was not accurate but after the 1/2 mile calibration procedure it is dead on now. I haven’t used the 50 too much yet. I was planning racing shorter races with it since it is smaller and waterproof vs. the 305.
I have the Forerunner 50, and as others have said the foot pod is pretty accurate after you calibrate it. The Forerunner 50 is waterproof and I think it will be my tri watch - do the swim, have the cadence sensor on the bike and the foot pod on the shoe. My biggest gripe with the 50 is the start/stop button is pretty easy to accidentally press if you wear it on your left arm and fully extend your wrist (has only been a problem for me when I wear it doing strength training exercises though and doing things like an overhead press). For the price the Forerunner 50 is good, and will give your wife the info she is after, although she’ll need to press some buttons if she wants to see pace, distance, HR and cadence, as you can only see two screens of data at a time on it. That is why I usually use the Forerunner 305 instead of the 50, as that shows up to four screens at a time.
