For those with hip/knee replacements not related to crash/injury

to what do you attribute the need for replacements? and your age at the time the procedure was done? i’m just wondering what may cause this type of problem in an effort to prevent it for me.
thanks…

i wish i knew. :frowning:

I was only 15 when i started having problems and 20 at the time of my total hip. i think that being small with very low body weight and running high mileage (~13 miles/day) all played into it. I was also told that i have a congenital defect with the Q-angle of my hips… probably something that I will have to look out for in my own kids someday. that part kinda worries me b/c i can’t do anything about genetics. :frowning:

thanks for the reply, genetics is something none of us can control… we play the cards we are dealt - at least for now. who knows what they’ll do in the future.

I’m 56 - just had my new hip put in Friday (17th). Walking with a cane in one week - expect to be walking without any help in another week. Was told I could be back on my bike in one month – exercise bike as early as next week.
My hip just wore out - years of running - guess I had a bad part to start with. Doc doesn’t want me to ever run again - which is fine as I hate running anyway. Very encouraged with everything 11 days after the operation.

Welcome to the wonderful bionic world of ti!

Piles of miles and poor joint development due to dislocated hips as an infant. This was not diagnosed prior to my arthritic hip problems that surfaced in my 40’s. I had both hips replaced in an 8 month period right after my 47 birthday. Good luck on not having to have them done.

Yes, welcome to the world of titanium. Sounds like you are doing well, or is that just the drugs talking?
We are always looking for new talent at Team Ti. I need another runner though, I don’t want austin 79 to have to do all the running for the whole team.
