For those of you who have switched from Shimano to SRAM

I am making the jump from Dura Ace to Red after 10 years of all Shimano.

Aside from remembering that the shifters work differently…any other things to keep in mind, things that stood out to you, things to look for?

Just looking for any tips…switching this weekend and VERY psyched…

Thanks

I had to get a different clamp for the front derailleur. With the limit screw maxed out, on the small chain ring, it wasn’t far enough in and the chain would rub on the big end of the cassette. With a clamp-on, you can rotate it a bit to correct, but then the chain rubs when you get to the other side of the cassette.

This was on an 09 Madone. Not sure if other bikes require a different clamp.

I was in the same boat as you, only used shimano for the past 7 years. Got on a new team that has a deal with SRAM so I got a bunch of RED stuff for cheap. I decided to keep my road rigs built with the DA 7800 and 7900 (I still am not 100% sold on my 7900). but I built the TT rig with SRAM red and I really like it, I didn’t have to do anything strange when I switcheed, it went very smoothly other than the SRAM CF TT brake levers didnt fit right with my Profile designs cobra carbon base bar. The red is noticably lighter, I am running a 58 p2c with a PT (with disc cover on an open pro) and a hed 3 deep up front and it weighs around 18lbs which is great for a tt rig that size (I think) with a pt. The only thing I am not totally stoked about with the RED is the cassette, it is sort of noisy but seems to shift well. It should last awhile since I dont do much training on this bike, just racing, soon its gonna have a set of zipp 606 clinchers with a pt sl+

just got my box from SRAM today and will be replacing the campy on my main roadie. I’ll let you know how it goes.

It’s noisy (similar to a dry shimano set-up).
If you’re doing the set-up yourself, there should be less initial tension in the rear derailleur cable. Since there is more pull with each shift, its easier to dial in, as long as you understand where to start.

i havent used the red but i have found the rival and force to have very poor finsh quality conpsired to shimano
