For those of you running Nokons

How did you secure them so they weren’t noisy on rough roads? Either my bike was very quiet before I put them on or they are very loud when they vibrate? I have some little rubber linings on sections I thought were hitting the handlebars/frame, any more suggestions to limit the vibration noise?

Mine are also very creaky, I almost considered going back to OEM. Last summer i used small pieces of rubber bands to tie them together in the front of the bike. It seemed to help a bit.

You just accept it as a sign of the superiority of your equipment, just like the noise of a campag freehub.

Mine have been great, haven’t noticed any noise issues. Do you have a little tension on them to keep them tight? I do use a rubber band to keep them close to the stem on my P3, but nothing other than that. Maybe your ears are better than mine.

The individual pieces of Nokons rub together a bit as the cable bends/straightens. If you take some dry lube and rub it on the Nokons it will gradually work in and quiet the cables down a bit. It takes a couple applications of the dry lube.

How do I lube my cables? I’m not sure where the best place to try to run oil down the tubing is, what time of oil do I use?

You mean Hugi and Phil Wood right?

Ride faster. The sound of rushing air past your ears will drown out the sound. If I’m indoors turning the handlebars from side to side, my nokons sound horrible! On the road, another story. It’s like my car. With the radio off, I hear all sorts of things when I hit a bump, make a turn, etc. But crank up the tunes, and everything’s all right!

Wow…I was going to put these on my bike but with all the complaints on noise forget it…Thanks for the question
.

Put a towel between the cables and the frame and spray the casing with triflow. spin the cable casing pieces and trthen wipe off the triflow. Do that once or twice and the creaking sound will disapear.

Yeah, the idea of paying extra over a system that already works wonderfully then having to deal with creaking makes the nokon option pretty much sound insane.

Dry lube = Pedro’s Ice Wax, Boeshield, White Lightening, etc.

Put some on a rag and rub the Nokon housing while bending it. The wax part of the lube will work it’s way in after a while. DO NOT use a wet lube.
