For the bird lovers

Saw this guy hanging out on our friends’ dock tonight & grabbed the camera from my truck. The pics were shot from a few hundred yards, with the lens of the camera (zoomed out) held up to the viewfinder on a telescopic thingy they keep handy for just such occasions.

I believe it’s a blue footed booby, but I’m not too good with my birds if they’re not red, black, and pecking on wood.

Beautiful!

We have a nesting pair that hang out around the small lake I live on. Same thing at the large lake I do my OW swims during the summer. That scream of their’s is impressive, and intimidating.

Stop being coy…you know that is some sort of a towhee or nuthatch!

Very cool. I have not seen any eagles around here. I understand they are nearby though. We have alot of big hawks…Red-tailed and Cooper’s.

I’ll have to show my wife this…she’ll be green with envy!

schnikees! i have never seen an eagle in person, but it’s a dream of mine. someone called me and told me they are near Saylor Park in Cincinnati. Waiting for Evan to have time to go scout it out with me.

that is a great shot Sphere! thanks for sharing it.

Very nice, I haven’t seen one yet this year, we have a wildlife refuge near me and I often go out birding when I find the time.

I found this in the hinterlands of the internet, and later saw you guys had a bird thread going. Likely NSFW, but absolutely hilarious if you’ve suffered the indignity of a freshly washed car marred by an angry bird.

Eagles are okay, but I really like boobies...

Here’s another, taken the following day. He’s feasting on a raccoon carcass left out by the homeowner’s neighbor (don’t ask).

Awesome…

Here is a webcam that is at a lake west of here…of a nesting pair and their chick

THAT is awesome! Not quite as awesome as a live video feed of a whelping box full of puppies, but it’s pretty damn close.

I’m a titmouse myself. (Punch line from a joke told by an ornithologist)

It has been pretty cool to follow

Very cool!

There’s a nest in Vanier Park in Vancouver - last week I was walking over the Burrard Bridge, one of the main access/egress routes for downtown, and saw a massive eagle sitting in a tree (the one just West of the rowing club or marina or whatever it is if any Vancouverites want to check out the nest). On the other side of the tree was a huge nest and I could just see the white head of another eagle in it, it must have been sitting on their eggs.

I was awe and had the urge to point it out to others on the sidewalk but everyone had their iPod on and was zoned out.
