Went riding this morning and a loud bang came from the bike (no it was not a burst tire). After getting home and inspecting it, it looks like a hair line crack on the down tube, very close to the derailler. It is a road bike full carbon trek 110 oclv. Is this noise common when a carbon fiber cracks, does this type of bike have a history of it??
Thank-you
I have no idea…you could have run over something. I wouldn’t ride the bike though until you have a Trek dealer check it over. Sounds like you’re going to need a replacement frame (though Trek should warranty it).
A loud bang is never good. Tap along the crack with a coin. Does it sound different from tapping along a different tube. If there is a “dead” sound you may have a problem. Take it to your LBS for inspection if you aren’t sure.
it is hard to tell, sounds a little dull than other parts
.
Time to take it to the shop then.
