For old car buffs

Buried beneath the dirt of the Tulsa County Courthouse lawn is a 1957 Plymouth Belvidere. The two-door sport model was placed there on June 15, 1957 and has been hidden underground for half a century:
Swaddled in rust-resistant preservatives and gently placed inside a giant concrete sarcophagus, the tailfinned Plymouth was interred on June 15, 1957 as the centerpiece of a time capsule created for the 21st century citizens of Tulsa 2007. The car contains a case of Schlitz beer and the complete contents of a woman’s purse including fourteen bobby pins, a ladies compact, plastic rain cap, several combs, a tube of lipstick, a pack of gum, a wad of Kleenex, $2.73 in bills and coins, a pack of cigarettes with matches, an unpaid parking ticket, and a bottle of tranquilizers.
The Plymouth time capsule will be disinterred on June 15, 2007.

Pump the water out…

Apparently the car won’t be lifted out until Friday. Doesn’t look like they’ll put gas in it and drive it away (which they had hoped for)…

More details to follow…!

" Doesn’t look like they’ll put gas in it and drive it away "

Yeah, but the real question is if the Schlitz is still drinkable.

That - and how much that parking ticket is going to cost to sort out after 50 years…

Is the registration and insurance up-to-date? They might want to check the air in the tyres, too.

Probably as drinkable as Schlitz ever is.

“Probably as drinkable as Schlitz ever is.”

You would be better of drinking the water they pumped out.

If those werer the typical contents of a woman’s purse in the 1950’s, those must have been “Happy Days”.

This car was loaded for a fun night out. A case of beer, a big back seat, tranquilizers, a pack of smokes, and a “plastic rain cap”, yeah, we all know what that REALLY is…

Here’s a new segment with a lot of video of the 1957 burial:

Today, they did a test lift to see if they could get the thing out:

On the back deck area, there’s a puddle of water that doesn’t move. Makes me wonder if the trunk lid is rusted through, otherwise you’d think that water would slide off. I think they’re going to unveil it tomorrow…

Hilarious

Well, it didn’t turn out quite the way they had hoped…
