Fleck,
After your post here (http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=1239719#1239719), I think you might enjoy watching the video of the recent British National Championship 25 mile time trial - arguably the biggest, most important time trial on the domestic calendar - that you can find here: http://www.damonpeacock.com/
The drama! (Rider and pusher-off almost getting run over by slow moving truck. Who needs a start house when you can paint a white line on the road?)
The excitement! (Old man muttering “Go on lad, get in there” as someone rides past.)
That chainring! (http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=1326586#1326586)
The adulation! (Polite clapping at the awards ceremony held in the gymnasium. What I can’t believe is that they appear to have started dressing the champion in a yellow jersey, instead of putting the stylish box-shaped cycling cap that they used to use.)
That had me on the edge of my seat. Wow, the British TT crowd really knows how to party.
Since when are they allowed to race in anything but all-black??
Whoa, you guys do weird stuff.
- Why have the start about 30 yds from a sharp turn? Why not move the start onto that next road?
- You have a guy who actually pushes at the start? Here we have holders, not pushers.
- Why is everyone on the wrong side of the road?
Why not move the start onto that next road?
Because that start line was laid down by a descendant of King Henry III back in 1306, and tradition demands that it stay in that location.

Because we like living dangerously, and appreciate the chance to show off our awesome handling skills.
-
But you guys have start ramps. (FWIW flat TTs - holder is allowed to push. Hillclimbs - holder can only release, not push.)
-
Because directions of driving are reflected by the Atlantic ocean.
whoa… that was a bit freaky… I was listening to exactly the same pink Floyd track before I starting watching the video… took me a while to work out what the hell was going on… messing with my mind
Hey,
I just wanted to say,
Thanks to all concerned.
I’m concerned. Are YOU concerned?
