I saw pics of an even bigger injury with a rider who had the thru axle stuck in his knee. Because it was stuck the fork and wheel had to be removed from the bike (or I should say, the bike removed from the fork) so the poor guy + front wheel stuck in his knee + fork could fit in the ambulance. Not sure it was the same race though.
