Football (the real game, not the NFL thing :-)

Hope this turns out to be a game of two halves, because first half was a walk in the park for PSG.

Hah. No such luck. What a day for Doue! A bit of a let down for a final. But who knew all PSG had to do was get rid of Mbappe. Good riddance!

Yeah, it’s too bad it wasn’t a better game. But it was great to see just how good PSG are, as I don’t hardly ever get to see them play.

Fuck PSG

Edit, I actually like them more since Mbappe left. They were absolutely clinical today so I have to give them respect.

Pretty dominant win by PSG.

They finally win the big one! And without the dream team of having Neymar, Messi, Mbappe etc that couldn’t do it.

Head(er)s up on some high quality games over the next couple of days …

UEFA Nations Cup semi final had Portugal win over Germany 2-1, in Germany(!)
Ronaldo’s not washed up, yet.

Other semi final is Spain vs. France later today. Winner plays Portugal on Sunday.

Quite the goalfest today.

Rumors of Ronaldo to Inter Miami for the Club World Cup. I dislike Ronaldo but maybe it’s good for the game.

Yes. Quite a weird game. Spain had comfy 4-0, and 5-1 leads, yet France made it close by the end. Spain was the better team yet France hit the woodwork a couple of times during the match, so it could’ve been a much closer game than the scores indicated.

Ronaldo (40) and Yamal (17) opposing each other in the final. Dude’s old enough to be the kids father!

Should be a good one to tune into.

If true, I hate these gimmicky contract setups. Seems like the roster should come w/an asterisk. Either join the team as a legit contributor for the whole season’s load, rather than for some publicity exhibition thing.

Ronaldo does seem to have lost a step (or half), but good enough to play at the highest level. The UEFA final on Sunday should be interesting.

Spain vs. Portugal was a decent game. Actually first half. Second half and OT were just ok.

And then it was decided on PKs. All were struck well - except for Morata’s, and that decided it.

In other national team news, the US does not look good. And not a lot of time to right the ship from a games perspective before the World Cup starts.

US vs. Switzerland playing a friendly tonight.

At halftime, the US is down 0-4

Based on the first half, we are not competitive at this level. At all.

Will watch the 2nd half in the same way one watches a train wreck - just because it’s difficult to look away.

You’re tougher than I am. There’s no way I can watch the 2nd half.

Lots of US subs at the half, but didn’t help. And I think the Swiss took their foot off the gas in the 2nd half. It’s a friendly after all.

While the rest of the world goes into WC qualifying matches, we (US) don’t have the benefit of having those competitive matches. Other than the upcoming Gold Cup tournament.

Pochettino’s an accomplished coach, but it really looks like he doesn’t have a lot to work with. Or much time.

Thanks, I was wondering if you’d post about the 2nd half.

Switzerland did look really good. I noticed that when they talked about the players’ club affiliations, a lot of the Swiss play for top-tier European clubs, and the Americans they mentioned were in MLS. I think that goes to your comment about not as much to work with.

It’s like we fielded an MLS b-team. Even our rising youth (Aaronson’s) were outclassed. We also didn’t have a bunch of our Euro-based A-listers for various reasons. Puliscic is exhausted. Others recovering from injury. And others didn’t release their players because there are still club competition commitments. So there’s that.

Yea the last two friendlies should be taken with a grain of salt. Take Saturday’s game. We have 20 year olds playing at Orlando City, their 20 year old plays for Real Madrid. Their players play in UCL. Have you every watched a Super Lig match? They are brutal. The only one on the pitch in that game that will start in the World Cup was Adams

England is looking very average under Tuchel. I think flashy Club coach hires might not work.

Haven’t seen their games under his tutelage yet. Am interested in checking them out next time they’re on TV. Have they had some recent struggles?

Lost 1-3 to Senegal. Beat Andora 1-0.
