Foot Stress Fracture

6 weeks ago I thought I may have had a stress frac. I wanted until last week and got an xray. Nothing showed. I still felt something was wrong and got a bone scan.
The bone scan said that I did have a stress frac of the second med. in the foot.
The doc e-mailed me and told me that I should go in a boot for 8 weeks. Is this normal?
should I get a follow up? how do I know when its gone?

Is 8 weeks normal for recovery once the fx is confirmed? Yes. At which point you can start back with 5 minutes easy jogging on a soft surface, and ideally it won’t hurt. Then rest a day, then another 5 min. Then another rest day, then 10min…and so on. You may be able to do some cycling in a sufficiently supportive bike shoe before 8 weeks, but talk it over with the MD. Depending on how much you abused it between the original injury and diagnosis, you may be on your way to healing already, or you may have delayed healing by continuing to stress it, that’s why the doc is prescribing the full 8 weeks - especially since you still felt something was wrong, that probably means it hasn’t been doing much healing. What you definitely don’t want to do is test it too much too soon and break it all the way, because then you’re looking at surgery.

I had a stress fracture of the cuneiform bone in the foot. 6 weeks no running but still could swim/bike. I wore a boot a few hours a day too. Also, get a bottle & start taking cissus quadrangularis (supplement). Helps in bone regrowth. 6 weeks passed, returned to running, no issues, it’s been about a year. Good luck !
