Foot Problem-Tough to Diagnose This

Ok, I have a really wierd foot problem that I just can’t figure out. I have been running with it for awhile but lately it is starting to get more and more painful. I am worried if I just keep doing nothing it is going to put me out of commission.
Tough to explain the exact problem but here goes…

On the inside of my big toe (between my big toe and second toe) I have this spot that really really hurts. It feels just like there is a HUGE splinter in there or something. But I have searched and searched with a needle and eyed it and can’t find any foreign object in there and don’t see how one could get into that spot anyways. It has a little swelling there but not much and some redness. It is REALLY REALLY painful to the touch and while I am running every once in awhile I get this unbelievable pain when the two toes rub together.

I have been dealing with this stupid thing for about 2 months now. This is my last resort before I bite the bullet and see a foot doctor. And I hate going to the doctor!!!

Sounds to me like you are going to love him! Take a photo and PM it too me if you want as it can only be a couple of things …

Give me some idea of what it is? I have scoured the internet and can’t really figure it out…unless it is a corn or there really is something in my foot! AHHH

google - Paronychia (likely won’t fit, but)

You said you see nothing, so I am assuming you can see a “corn”, wart, skin lesion of some sort. Lastly, underlying bony issues need an x-ray to diagnose.

Is that for toenails as well as fingernails?

Is that for toenails as well as fingernails?
Not sure what you mean, but yes, goes for fingernails as well. In the finger (index or thumb most common), can also be a “felon”

Is it next to the nail or further down toward the sole surface of the toe?

Ah, the things you learn on ST… Paronychia

I must of had this a couple of months ago… on a finger… It was so damn painful. After a couple of days I took and x-acto knife to it, just barely touching it, it burst open and the pus that shot out was just DISGUSTING, but the pain quickly disipated… A couple of soaks in alcohol and it quickly healed…

It is actually no where near the nail…and let me be the second to say the Paronical-whatever looks disgusting. Trust me if I had that, I would have been at the doctor’s office weeks ago. This is actually exactly on the right side of the big toe on my right foot. At the point where it naturally touches the toe next to it…

Does this help diagnosis I hope??

Nope - doesn’t help much, sorry! only the IPJ (interphalangeal joint) of the great toe is there, and arthritis or an accessory small sesamoid is about all that occurs (and rarely at that) in that area.

Good luck!

Is the adjacent nail pushing on that spot?
