Has anyone experienced foot pain while riding? I first noticed during my last half last summer, and since training again this year, have felt it again. It happens on my spinning bike, tri bike and road bike. It is only on one foot and a little towards the outside and near the middle. Is it most likely shoes, cleats, pedals, etc…??? Sometimes it bothers me so much I have to start out walking in a race or a brick. The shoes are just cycling shoes and are about 4 years old. I am currently using Speedplay pedals on all 3 bikes. Any advice?
Hard to answer without seeing you on the bike and so forth. But the
first thing I would do is go get a quality bike fit. After that I
would certainly invest in some better shoes, don’t skimp on the shoes
they are one of the most important pieces of equipment you have. Then,
I would definitely recommend a different pedal, something with a larger
platform like the Dura-Ace. Once all set up make sure your cleats are
in the proper position, that is something your bike fitter should do.
I’ve had this in the past and attributed it to the shoes. If it hadn’t gone away on its own I was going to buy some superfeet insoles for the tri-shoes. After all, the things are carbon soled and have minimal insoles. Like walking barefoot on concrete for hours…

Like Jodi mentioned, I have had good luck adding insoles to my cycling shoes.
I was fitted on my road bike about a year ago, and on my tri bike last year, thanks for the info though. I should probaby reach back out to the guy that did the fitting.
Take a look at the advice from rroof in the thread below where I had the same problem. One thing I will mention is that I wore my road shoes this past weekend and got this pain again after not having it for quite awhile. I just bought a pair of the LG Tri Air’s and so far that shoe has been the only shoe that hasn’t caused that pain though I have only worn it 5 or 6 times so it might come up in the future. One thing rroof mentions is the tightness of the shoe. I have found that I get this pain more often when I don’t have my shoe tightened just right. Too loose seems to be the main cause now that I have the wedges right. The foot has to be as stable as possible. It is best to shop around for a shoe that fits you perfectly and realize that the fit might change over time. When you step into a shoe that fits like a glove you will know it immediately. Just make sure to adjust the tightness during your ride as your feet swell/shrink (I still forget to do this more than I should.

the person that fitted your shoes/bike, did they look at your foot/pedal interface and did they measure for varus/valgus and fore/aft position? Where are you located?
I’m honestly not sure if he looked at those things…I’m still waiting for his reply from my email. I’m in Indy.
