Foot pain. Has anyone had this bump

I have this soft bump on the outside of my foot. Just below the ankle. Does anyone know what this is. I do have PF in this foot.

you are probably over compensating when you walk or run because of the pf…ice it…ice it and when you are finish ice it again… ibuprofin at night and strech 1st thing in the morning…before you even get out of bed…and DO NOT WALK BARE FOOTED

Lipoma vs ganglion cyst vs? Might be best to have it evaluated, and possibly xrayed, by your local medical professional if you’re symptomatic.

Dr. Post, you are back?!

That is a very common location for a ganglion and just drained one in that exact location this afternoon.

Fun test: turn off lights, get a pen light and put on bump and it should transilluminate nicely if a cyst.

Plenty of googling about these common guys, but always good to get a hands on exam/ultrasound, etc. to ensure no “zebra” (i.e. chondrosarcoma)

Thanks. I will let my Md take a look.

Looks like a ganglion. Usually drainage is temporary, though this is fine for many people.

good to hear from you to Dr Roof. I thought I’d see what the best of the best was up to.

I had a very similar bump on my foot, and it turned out to be a ganglion cyst intertwined with a lipoma. I ended up needing surgery to remove it. However, if it’s just a ganglion cyst, needle aspiration will often do the trick (although the cyst may eventually recur). I agree with the other posters who recommended getting it checked out by a doctor. Good luck!

Agree most likely a ganglion. See dozens off these in that spot every year.
Aspiration first, but about a 50% recurrence rate. If it keeps bothering you, then surgery to remove. Not too bad, a couple weeks of down time. Still can be up to 10% recurrence rate after surgery though :frowning:

As hard as it is to believe (and I was a believer) ice isn’t the answer.
