Food Nazis...soy?

I like light chocolate soy milk in my coffee. My mom recently told me I should avoid the soy because of estrogen. I did some reading and it’s kind of scary. Mostly about soy formula for babies and the effects later in life, but also about soy consumption as an adult. Does anyone know much about this?

It it my understanding that it takes quite a bit to be harmful.

But what is quite a lot? Daily consumption? Apparently we consume a lot more soy than we realize. Definitely more than the asian cultures whose diets we thought we were emulating.

So I did some more looking around to find the answer to your question and found there is no actual agreement on this. Soy does contain a small amount of Phyto-oestrogens which is where the conerns come from. I didn’t find any scientific evidence that the effects of that is anything but positive. There are people who disagree and have expressed concern about it but I wasn’t able to find any specific number of grams to limit yourself to.

I personally don’t think there is a risk and I eat it all the time. From everything I’ve read the benefits of soy far outweigh any perceived risks.

Anyone have a link to information on this. I have thought this for a longtime and read it somewhere but can not remember. My girlfriend is vegan and consumes a lot of soy. I tried to express my concern to her but she just states her diet is healthy and will not listen to me. I would love to be able to take some written info to her. Thanks

This one has to do with Breast Cancer:

And this one is more general, but talks a lot of infants and children:

.

That is a load of crap perpetuated by the dairy industry. I drink soy milk all the time, eat copious amounts of tofu and edamame and I am all man …

except for the “biggest loser” addiction, and the enjoyment of a sport that allows complete body shaving and costume changes, oh yeah and I like chaps. Leather chaps. With fringes.

I don’t know about that, but I have read that if you have a thyroid condition you might want to minimize your soy intake. Seems like it is in everything these days.

Suckers…
