Foam Roller?

Where can I get one? Seems like the $20 at the exercise store is too high for a simple object.

I paid the 20 bucks (or maybe a bit more) b/c I was in a hurry. It was worth it.

What did you use it on? Specific injury or just in general?

I got it specifically for IT issues. Its very helpful as a preventive measure. I don’t think I’d be able to run at all without it. I have one in the office and one at home. Other people at work use it on their lower backs and seem to like it a lot. Its a great self massage for the ITB.

That is why I am getting one. I was also thinking it might help with my wife’s lower back too. I have a 4 inch roller we used under the infant car seat, but it is hard to keep my feet and legs off the floor. this why I am looking for a 6 inch roller. I guess I will end up paying the 20$

$20 is not too much to pay, but if you’re real cheap and belong to Kaiser, you can get one for something like $11 or so…

The sell them for $15.00 at www.smiweb.org But then you would probably end up paying $5-6 for shipping.

Go to the toy store buy a swim noodle and cut a foot long section off. Works great.

The foam roller is the poor man’s massage.

The $20 foam roller is completely worth it. I don’t find the swim noodles to be firm enough (if you lay on it and roll, you can smash it down pretty quickly, and I don’t even weigh very much!). I have used it for IT problems for years and they haven’t recurred. Mine has lasted for 2 years.

I was just given one by our fitness instrcutor at work to help me with calf tightness. It has been a life-saver.

She mentioned that she can get one for $7…but I can’t recall the name of the store.

Either way, it’s totally worth it.

You can get one of the swim noodles that is hollow and then insert a section of PVC pipe in it. This makes it firm enough to do the job. My chiropractor suggested this as an alternative.

they work for everything! check out this guide:

I got mine from a local leisure centre and had the large diamter ‘woggle’. It’s about 6 inches in diamter. This way you can do your back as well. I have to say this is one of the most important investments I’ve probably made in terms of equipment.

Is it an investment if you don’t pay for it?

Check out Power-Systems.Com. They have a 6 x 12 foam roller for under $6. I have it and love it. If I had it to do again, though, I would splurge and get the 6 x 36. Shipping adds around $5.

I recommend the TP Massage ball system instead of a foam roller. I bought one last week and it is great.
