Foam Beds anyone?

I need a new bed in a big way and I am thinking about a foam bed.

Anyone have one, reccommend one, love one, hate one?

Help, Andrew

I have a TempurPedic. Expensive, but I like it. It really seems to help my wife’s bad back.

Only problem is when it gets cold. We had an ice storm a couple years ago that left the power out for a few days. When we got back to the house, the bed was hard as a brick. Until we sat on it. Slept on it overnight. The impressions where our bodies were were soft and had sunk into the surface. Most of the bed was still hard. Kindof like making a mold of yourself.

Once the room (and the bed) re-warmed to normal temps, it was back to sleeping softly.

Do a forum search. This topic shows up periodically. There’s probably some good info in the old threads.

I’ve had one for about a year or so and like it a lot, I don’t feel as stiff or creaky as I used to with my old mattress and I sleep a lot better too.

funny, i thought about starting this thread a couple of days ago after my wife and I went to Jordan’s to check out the foam offerings.

My conclusion was that the latex foam beds were pisser, but for $1800, not so much.

I looked at it as a long-term investment, plus I got it during the tax-free holiday weekend last year so I saved some $. Got it at Jordan’s also.

It was interesting when we got back home we ran immediately upstairs to see how our mattress stacked up to the Natures Rest line we tried, the conclusion was that our’s really sucks. Ok, not that bad but not great either.

I’m ready to pay-up, just couldn’t do it on the spot.

So everyone is for them? Nothing bad to say about them?

I talked to my Chiropractor and he raved about them… except that they were not that great for sex. No bounce.

We just bought a new bed and looked at the foam offerings. Finally decided against them because the dealers universally agreed that they slept “hot”. That was a deal breaker for me…

If you’ve ever spent a dime on chiropractic or PT bills for back-related issues, it’s a no-brainer. Buy one today.

I’ve had mine for a year now - after years of chronic back pain - and haven’t had a single problem since the Tempurpedic arrived. Best money I’ve ever spent, aside from my beanie baby collection.

Absolutely true, but still worth every penny in my case.

There are a lot of different types.

If you’re talking about TempurPedic, you’re talking about that space foam stuff, which I don’t know much about.

However, if you’re talking about talalay latex foam, which is natural, then I can tell you that I love mine. I have a Therapedic which is terrific - they don’t need to be flipped, I love the firmness, it’s hypoallergenic and doesn’t attract dust mites. It’s also pretty heavy, so I guess that it’s good it doesn’t need to be flipped. Latex mattresses are also good fits for platform beds, as they don’t need a box spring. They also “feel” like a regular mattress, as opposed to that Tempurpedic sink-into thing.

A lot of bigger manufacturers are opening latex lines, so you can find them if you look. Otherwise, they tend to be a boutique item and priced as such. But it was definitely worth it.

Can’t argue with anything mentioned here. And I love mine. But, if I were to do it again, I’d get a “nice” spring mattress, and then a 4 inch foam mattress pad. You get the same effect for 800 bucks cheaper. A couple nights in a high dollar Marr1ot with that set-up, has confirmed my theory.

I’ve had mine for about a week now, and I really like it. I didn’t think it would make such a big difference in sleep. I find that I dream more, I guess that’s a good thing meaning more REM sleep(?) I didn’t buy a TemperPedic, I went with www.bedinabox.com I haven’t found it that hot either. I would recommend if you sleep on your side or stomach.

My wife and I bought the Sealy version of the Memory Foam. 11" thick. We absolutely love it and saved $700 as opposed to buying the Temper pedic brand

When my current mattress dies, I’ll get a foam for sure.

Received a foam pillow for Christmas 07… Love it! It’s the only thing I miss while sleeping Italia.

We bought our latex bed at Jordan’s about 5 years ago. It’s the nicest bed we’ve ever had (Nature’s Rest). Yes it was a bit spendy but soooo worth it.

We bought a foam topper that is about 3" thick and put it over the regular matress. It’s awesome. It stopped my legs from falling asleep and from going numb when i sleep. I got ours from costco and it was a buck fifty i think for a queen size. It was definately worth the cash.

I love my tempurpedic bed which is why i now sell them thru my office. it comes with a 90 days trial period, I have only had one patient that didn’t like it. everyone else LOVES it. They have different options for thickness and size. maybe i should start offering a ST discount:-)

All right, so we took delivery of out Tempurdedic yesterday and had a great nights sleep. We took delivery of the pillows today and cannot wait to test them out tonight. My Chiropractor was the final recommendation we needed. Pulled the trigger. So far, so good.

Thanks all for your opinions. Gotta love teh collective genius of ST.

“I find that I dream more,”

Ok, this si crazy because both my wife and I find that are dreaming more / remembering our dreams more since we got this new bed. Nutty.
