Looking at the electoral map the entire west coast, north east and north central areas voted Democrat while the mid west and south voted Republican. Not one state made an exception.

Thank God the Rich, White Slave owners believed in a representative republic instead of a democracy. You would have Hollywood and NY city running the country now.
You are looking at the wrong map. Look at the voting by county map. That map is 95% red. It is just a few urban areas that voted for Kerry.
Fly over country starts when the wheels leave the tarmac on takeoff and ends when they hit the tarmac on landing.
I have made this point before, but people (especially those in the Democratic Party leadership) don’t get it–THE USA IS A CONSERVATIVE COUNTRY!!
A Democrat presidential candidate has not gotten over 50% of the popular vote since 1976. Republicans in 2008 will have held the presidency for 20 out of 28 years. The Congress has switched from a Democrat majority to a Republican majority. Most Governors are Republicans. Most state legislatures are Republican. These trends cannot be ignored by the Democrats if they ever hope to get back into power. Blaming it all on stupid, religious rednecks won’t get it done.
The county by county electoral map shows the massiveness of this trend. Most of us in “fly-over country” just don’t give a shit about what Hollywood, effete Northeastern liberals, corrupt union bosses, or the talking heads in D.C. think–and we resent the HELL out of them telling us we are stupid when we are NOT!

Let the Dems keep hating and keep condescending and keep losing, if they so desire. It will only make them less than they would otherwise be.
Look at the trends. Look at what happened in this election. GWB got higher percentages in virtually every one of the liberal constituencies than he did in 2000. The future does not bode well for your 49%.
What about all the people who couldn’t even manage to get out and vote…more of them undoubtedly fall to the left so I think the real conservatives are in the minority in this country.
Anyone ever see any stats on this…which areas vote in higher percentages (out of voter age population). I would think the rural folks vote at a much higher percentage than the city slickers.
